Since 26th August, September 2022, Period Products and Sanitary Provision are completely free in all schools, public buildings, leisure and culture facilities and to various community and voluntary organisations around South Lanarkshire.

Staff and pupil female toilets are well stocked with Sanitary products.  If pupils cannot find items please ask the janitors, Pupil Support or Mrs Scaramuzzi for help.

Challenge Poverty Week

The first Challenge Poverty Week was launched by the Poverty Alliance in 2013.

Challenge Poverty week aims to highlight the injustice of poverty in Scotland, and to show that collective action based on justice and compassion can create solutions.

We use this opportunity to speak up against poverty and unite with others in calling for a just and equal Scotland.

What do we do?

In partnership with the Reverend Joanne Hood from St John’s and The Chaplaincy Team, HGS stages a reflective event for CHALLENGE POVERTY WEEK. This happens during the month of October, when pupils across all year groups are given the opportunity to learn about the impact of poverty; to share their thoughts and feelings; to reflect on its impact and to offer solutions to the problem.

We are extremely proud of what the pupils say and do to stand up against poverty!

This year Challenge Poverty Week will take place Monday 2nd – Sunday 8th October 2023.
