Homework

Homework is any form of learning which originates in the classroom but takes place or continues elsewhere. A pupil’s education is always a partnership between home and school, and, for homework to be effective, a strong mutual commitment between partners is necessary.

Homework has several functions :

• preparation for class – focusing of thought, brainstorming of ideas. Acquiring basic knowledge;
• consolidation – practising skills introduced in class; reviewing class work;
• extension – applying ideas to new contexts and problems, widening the base of knowledge;
• revision – recalling earlier learning for tests and exams;
• investigation – work for class which should be done independently.
